About
Hello, nice that you like to get to know me. I am Femke de Jong. I got my PhD in plant science in 2007, with a study about which proteins are involved in the regeneration of plants. Following this I worked some years as a scientist.
In that time, I worked on among other things on the spliceosome, how glucose and nitrogen regulate the growth of plants, the discovery of metabolic biosynthesis pathways in willows, and how stress is influencing membrane lipids. About those topics I published multiple scientific papers.
Some years ago, I realized that I liked reading and writing about plant science just as much, if not more than doing research. Since then, I am working as a freelance science journalist. Here you can find my freelance website.
There you can find some articles I wrote. As well as the academic writing advice I give. And how I transform PhD theses into Thesis Glossies.
Further, in my free time, I like going on walks, cups of thee, crocheting, and reading. You can follow me on BlueSky @plantenzo.bsky.social and on LinkedIn
