Plant infecting viruses use ingenious techniques for optimal distribution. TYLCV, for example, manipulates both its host plant and its distributor.

Self-restricting parasites

For parasitic plants it is a disadvantage if they all latch on the same host. Now Swedish and Japanese researchers show in PNAS that some parasitic plants at least can control this.

Zelf begrenzende parasieten

Voor parasiterende planten is het ongunstig om met z’n allen op dezelfde gastheerplant te zitten. Nu laten Zweedse en Japanse onderzoekers in PNAS zien dat sommige parasiterende planten dit kunnen controleren.
